The ELEC's Central Council mmeting on Friday 2nd June concluded with a pleasant evening at the top of the Montjuïc hill, with a marvelous view of the city of Barcelona. That is where the Generalitat de Catalunya, represented by the secretary general of the Financial Department, Mr. Andreu Morillas, offered a dinner party to the members of the ELEC. The evening was hosted by the secretary of international relations of the Catalan government, Ms. Margarida Obiols.
Before dinner, the President of the Spanish Committee, Mr. Carles A. Gasòliba, gave a brief explanation of the city's key points that could be seen from the terrace in which the evening took place. Afterwards, Mr. Andreu Morillas congratulated the ELEC for its efforts in favour of Europeanism, and the Spanish Committee specially for its 59th anniversary. Mr. Morillas emphasized the importance of the work made by the Committee during the difficult period in which Europeanists were forced to live under a regime, Franco's, reluctant to get close to Europe.
In the last part of the evening a diploma was awarded to those who have been members of the board of directors of the Spanish Committee right from its foundation, starting with Mr. Carlos Güell de Sentmenat, Mr. Lorenzo Gascón and Mr. Joan Jordi Bergós, and followed by Mr. Carlos de Montoliu. There were also presents commemorating the event for the current President of ELEC, Mr. Anton van Rossum; his predecessor, Mr. Ferdinand Chaffart, and the current secretary general, Mr. Jean-Claude Koeune. The representatives of the Catalan government, Mr. Andreu Morillas and Ms. Margarida Obiols, received the book commemorating the 50th. anniversary of the Spanish Committee, like the aforementioned personalities.
